Meet Johanna Sampson, MD
Welcome to Magnolia Medicine. I'm a board-certified family physician with over 15 years of experience. I created this practice because I believe primary care should be a relationship built on trust, compassion and thoughtfulness.
I grew up in Concord, Massachusetts, and studied Exercise Science and Nutrition at Miami University in Ohio before earning my medical degree from Wright State University School of Medicine. I completed my residency at UNC Chapel Hill, where I fell in love with both family medicine and North Carolina. After more than a decade practicing with IU Health in Indianapolis, my husband (also a physician) and I made the long-awaited move back to the Raleigh area, where we're now raising our three children—and our dog, Messi.
Throughout my career, my diverse clinical experience spans primary care, urgent care, travel medicine, employee health, occupational medicine, eating disorder care, and health coaching. These experiences have shaped my approach to medicine: prevention-focused, research-informed, and centered on truly listening to each patient's unique story. I'm especially passionate about women's health, comprehensive wellness, and empowering patients to take charge of their long-term health.
Outside of work, I enjoy gardening, spending time outdoors, reading, traveling, and quality time with my family.
